EGA is the nom de plume of Slovak modular explorer Peter Kudlička. With its almost off-beat nature the debut EP Northward is underlined by many years of experience in beat driven electronics which now have found their way into the more subliminal, abstract side of things.
Considering it is the result of almost two years work carved both with modules and software the EP feels surprisingly coherent. Be it the eerie loops and fragile melodic changes on Wintermute, the morse code like body language of She Dreams in Vectors or the sci-fi-esque opener Northward; It all suggests that, there might well be some ghosts in the machine. On the other hand EGA manages to escape the usual ever-present dystopian electronics by combining raw sonic murk with high-res synth work.
The EPs modular 'DNA' makes for a distinct micro universe of sounds of which the centre piece Wintermute is prime example, sounding as if it's partly a long lost recording of crunching clumpy steps on amplified snow. The straightforward arpeggio heavy 'Wave' then feels more like glimpse into the producers future. And that is something we are definitely looking forward to.
